Burren Smokehouse Visitor Centre

Our visitor centre is part of the “Taste The Atlantic - Salmon Experience”, where visitors can discover the story of the Burren Smokehouse, the Curtin Family and the Salmon of Knowledge. Our retail space offers a selection of our Burren Smoked Irish Organic Salmon and other local Irish gourmet foods.
Smoking Salmon
In our Visitor Centre, we will show you the secret of how our smoked salmon is handcrafted through storyboards (French and German translations are available) along with a short video. Follow the Curtin Family through history and learn about the milestones and ethics of the Burren Smokehouse. Explore the old smoke box and look into one of the first kilns we ever used and which is still working.

Salmon of Knowledge
Enjoy portrayals of the legend of the "Salmon of Knowledge" inside and outside the building where you will be greeted by a depiction of said Salmon covered in glittering mosaic tiles. Read the famous legend and discover the incredible core of truth engrained in the legend.

In the Footsteps of Royalty!
In May 2019, the honour of a Swedish Royal visit was bestowed upon us. King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden visited the Burren Smokehouse to learn about and taste our Burren Smoked Irish Organic Salmon. Queen Elizabeth II enjoyed our Smoked Wild Irish Salmon as a starter during the historic State Dinner in Dublin Castle in 2011, and also King Charles III when he visited the Burren in 2015.
